So this product first launched in 2013 to meet the demands of those that wanted to tackle the appearance of greasiness, or breakouts without using harsh products that strip the skin, disrupt the natural moisture barrier and end up exacerbating those skin issues. It has now been upgraded to perform even better.
What is new in the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream Formula
For 2021, the formula is now alcohol-free which is a much welcomed improvement. It has also been enriched with Glacial Gycoproteins and Micronised Amino Acids.
The formula uses the same cooling gel texture. Even though I am a fan of richer textures, I have to say this is a really beautiful formula and instantly quenches and comforts the skin.
New Technology in Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream
The 2021 formula contains a new specialised ingredient technology that works to reduce the appearance of excess sebum whilst providing long-lasting hydration. It promises to reduce the feeling of oiliness by 27%, visible shine by 24% and pore size appearance by up to 12% in just 14 days. Upon application, skin is up to 99% more hydrated and shine free for up to 8 hours.
Micronised Amino Acid
This new addition to the formula helps to reduce excessive oil production for reduced shine and visible pores over time.

Glacial Glycoprotein
Works to prevent water loss to keep the skin deeply hydrated.
My Review
The texture is a very lightweight and skin quenching one. It delivers the sensation of watery hydration being infused into the skin and as it is applied, the gel transform into a light liquid that then absorbs effortlessly into the skin. As I said, I usually love a richer, creamier texture, but this is super pleasant to use and perfect for day time when I’m not wearing makeup but want some long lasting hydration.
I actually love this first thing after I have done a quick cleanse before I get on my Peloton to start the day.
